Berkshire, UK, 18 December, 2007 – LG Electronics (LG), a global leader in consumer electronics, today launches its first biometric USB equipped with fingerprint recognition technology. This portable storage device is designed to give users additional electronic security, protecting sensitive information when in transit.
When used for the first time, the user is asked to scan their fingerprint via bespoke identification software within the USB. Additionally, they will then be prompted to create a password to further protect important information. Once the security functions have been activated, any data stored on the USB will be inaccessible to anybody else. A total of 10 fingerprints can be registered with the unit.
Fiona Landsberg, marketing manager, LG Electronics says, “Data is often the most valuable asset to individuals and businesses, and keeping it secure when in transit is a top priority. In instances when data is stolen or lost, dire consequences are often experienced such as reputation damage, financial loss or identity theft. LG’s new biometric USB is designed to minimise the risks associated with data loss and help ensure information is accessed only by the correct people.”
In addition to its high-security functions, the biometric USB drive has a safety ejection to help prevent data corruption and a ‘favourites function’ that gives users access to their Internet links. Furthermore, this lightweight and compact USB drive comes in a black, UV coated finish and is available in various storage capacities of between 512MB and 4GB.
